Disney and Marvel have confirmed that Captain America 3 will release on the same date as Warner Bros’ upcoming Superman-Batman movie.
The second sequel in the Chris Evans-starring franchise will release on May 6, 2016, after the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier which has now grossed $300 million-plus worldwide.
It is, however, expected that either Marvel or Warner Bros will remove their films from the release date so as to avoid opening at the same time.
Marvel is apparently confident that Warner will push its untitled Superman-Batman movie from May 6, 2016 following the lighter-than-expected box office performance of Man of Steel, which took $668 million worldwide.
Warner confirmed in January that it would release its Superman-Batman picture on this date, squaring off against an unannounced Marvel film.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier debuted in the number one spot at the US box office yesterday (April 6).
It broke April box office records by taking an estimated $96.2 million on its opening weekend.
