Dortmund need a Real miracle

Ronaldo C.Borussia Dortmund will need to produce something special in hope of overturning Real Madrid when they meet in the reverse leg at the BVB Stadion.

Kick-off will be on Tuesday evening at 20h45 (CAT).

Real Madrid lost twice at Borussia Dortmund last season in the knockout stages of the competition and will make a quick return to Germany looking to extract a double dose of revenge en-route to the quarter-finals.

It will be a highly remarkable turnaround should the Germans be able to extract a win worthy of sending the game into extra time.

The nine-time European champions won 3-0 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, meaning they could even afford a repeat of last year’s 4-1 defeat at Dortmund and still progress.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s first-leg goal took his personal tally to 14, matching the record for a European Cup season jointly held by José Altafini (1962/63) and Lionel Messi (2011/12), and he will be out to go beyond the already impressive tally.

Last year’s emphatic result at home will certainly buoy Dortmund to come out with their guns firing and winger, Marco Reus, insists his side have not given up hope.

“We have not given up (against Real),” said Reus. “If we play like we did (against Wolfsburg) in the first half, then it will be very difficult.

“If we play as well as we did in the second, we honestly have a chance. It will be damn hard, but we’ll give it everything.”

Things in the Madrid camp are going exceptionally well as the Galacticos responded to Atletico de Madrid and Barcelona’s victories by dismantling Real Sociedad with a 4-0 win.

Goals from Asier Illarramendi, Gareth Bale, Pepe and Alvaro Morata contributed to the win as head coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted his joy in his team’s response.

We played very well, intelligently. We started at a very high pace and had more intensity in the second half. Everyone had a good game and I’m pleased because it wasn’t easy,” he said.

“I’m very proud to manage this team. I have players who like to fight and we’re going to fight until the last match.”
