So the word “fashionista” seems to be getting many mentions in this town lately, particularly in the fashion circles. Everyone wants their name and the word “fashionista” appearing in the same sentence.

Well, for those that are wondering how to upgrade their personal style to fashionista level, here are a few tricks that you can use. Who knows, you could be Kampala’s next trend setter.

Be unique.

What will get you turning heads with your look is having something different. If you see Kanye rocking something you like, don’t just copy and paste the look. Simply pick a few ideas and then develop it to suit your personal style. Have something unique for people to love, and eventually copy.

You are going to be as creative as possible. Mix and match, try out new styling tricks, and also be fearless. The trick here is experimenting with as many pieces as possible. Who knows, you could start a trend of your own, without even knowing it.

Be confident.

Exude confidence with whatever you wear. The confidence boost also contributes much to how you come off looking.  You are not just going to turn heads, you are going to need to be a real stunner, and command a following with what you wear.

Invest.

Looking good comes at a cost. So you are going to have to invest in a few pricey but trendy pieces like a statement necklaces, a designer bag, or a cool trendy pair of shoes. Pick out neutral coloured pieces that can work with all your items. For instance, you can have a black pair of shoe or a little white dress as these are very versatile.

Hire a stylist.

In order to be up to date with what’s trending and how to nail your looks for different looks then you may need to hire a stylist. For those that ride on their images like the artistes, a stylist should be a must have for you.

Afterall, two heads are better than one. You don’t have to splash on an exotic stylist or fashion guru; enlist the help of a fashionable friend.

Be effortless.

Being stylish is not having Gucci shoes, Versace shirt, obey cap and leather pants in one look. It’s having one superb piece and working around that. All I am saying is being stylish should be effortless. All you have to do is know how to layer out your different items to come off looking very much like a trend setter.

Have a  personal hands on tailor.

To be a fashionista, you will need to think outside the box. So to create uniqueness with your looks, you will need a personal tailor to make you some unique pieces so that you step out like a true fashionista. These will come in handy, especially when you have an event. Have some African print booty shorts, while everyone else is rocking the denim ones.
