Ugandan singer Mary Bata has declared that no female artist in Uganda, past or present, can match her in a musical battle, insisting that she is not afraid of anyone when it comes to performing on the microphone.

Bata made the bold remarks while discussing her musical abilities, naming several established and upcoming female musicians whom she believes cannot challenge her, including Chance Nalubega and Gloria Bugie.
“There’s no artist present or in history that I’m afraid of. From the likes of Chance Nalubega up to Gloria Bugie, none can challenge me. In fact, you can combine them all and bring them,” she said.
The singer also addressed comparisons with Cindy Sanyu, who is widely recognised for her vocal abilities. According to Bata, even Cindy has acknowledged her talent and given her credit at one point.
Bata added that she is equally confident when facing male musicians, although she maintains respect for them. She, however, singled out Winnie Nwagi as the one female artist who could give her a serious challenge in a musical showdown.
“I would say I don’t fear the male musicians too, but I respect them. Musically, on the mic, I don’t fear anyone. Winnie Nwagi is the only one who can put me up to the challenge, maybe. She’s a bad one,” Bata stated.
The singer also used the opportunity to speak about her upcoming concert at Serena, urging fans to view the show as a chance to experience her musical abilities before deciding whether she is ready for a battle against her peers.
Bata said the concert would give audiences an opportunity to judge her talent for themselves and determine whether she could take on one or several artists in a musical contest.
