Former Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder and assistant coach Jackson Mayanja has said it is high time the country started employing a local coach.
Mayanja who was assistant to Scotsman Robert ‘Bobby’ Williamson before he was sacked last year, said he is not against coaches from Europe, Asia or any other continent, but said it is the Ugandan coaches who understand their players even better.“The FA will not regret if they put trust in some local coaches and invest in them some money. The crop of coaches like Sam Ssimbwa, Moses Basena, Sam Timbe, Mike Mutebi and myself have what it takes to guide Uganda Cranes to the next level,” he added.
He said the Ugandan FA should copy countries like Nigeria who have managed to achieve with local coaches like Stephen Keshi.
