South Sudan is courting a friendly against Uganda Cranes ahead of the first leg 2014 Afcon preliminary round qualifier against Eritrea.
Mujib Kasule, the Vice President in-charge of the League and chairman technical committee of the Ugandan FA, confirmed to MTNFootball.com on Thursday that the South Sudan FA had written requesting to play them in an international friendly.
South Sudan who will be making their maiden appearance in Afcon qualifiers will face Eritrea on April 11th in the first leg away Asmara.
“We wrote back to them and confirmed that we are ready to play when they make a stopover in Uganda. We are only waiting for them to confirm the date for the match,” added Kasule.
South Sudan became an independent country in July 2011.
Seven months later, February 2012, they were admitted into the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and three months later became FIFA members.
They hosted Uganda Cranes in their first International friendly the same year and drew 2-2.
However, they have struggled to impress in the last two Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup competitions.
Meanwhile, Uganda will start their Afcon qualifiers in the second round stage and earlier this month lost 2-1 in a friendly away to former African champions Zambia in Ndola.
