Afrikanity- a novel program to reconnect us with our African roots, culture, and most importantly, our heritage and wildlife- was launched on Saturday, 11th October 2025 at the home of the AGCCA in Akright City.

The AGCCA is a pan-African network of 46 experts in 19 African countries spearheading the conservation of Africa’s rarest wild cat species- the African golden cat (embaki is the Kiganda name). Since 2019, the AGCCA has been at the forefront of protecting Africa’s wildlife through grassroots local community engagement.

Adding to that success, is Afrikanity, a program to reconnect Africa’s urban dwellers with Nature through African culture. The launch of Afrikanity itself was an embodiment of African culture through live music performances by one of Uganda’s evergreen artists Kenneth Mugabi and BigTril, traditionally prepared BBQ and beverages and even storytelling at a ekyooto (fireplace).

In attendance was also some of Uganda’s top creatives; artists, painters, fashion designers, African hair and beauty specialists, photographers, storytellers and content creators. Afrikanity embraces an open door concept, where individuals and families are welcome to visit, express and speak about their Africanity, being African and participate in fun African themed events including music, art, food, storytelling, travel, hair and beauty, fashion and design and poetry while inspiring our communal responsibility and stewardship for African Nature and wildlife.
