American Grammy-winning artist Matt B has touched down in Uganda alongside his wife and manager, proudly carrying four Grammy trophies — two of which are set to remain in the Pearl of Africa.

The celebrated singer, known for his award-nominated collaboration “Gimme Love” with Ugandan superstar Eddy Kenzo, is in the country to honor the Ugandan talents behind his Grammy-winning album Alkebulan II.

This moment marks a historic milestone, as it’s the first time Uganda and East Africa have won a Grammy Award, sending waves of pride throughout the region.

Two of the Grammys were awarded to Ugandan producers Bashkilla and BiT HD, who co-produced the Alkebulan II album — a sonic masterpiece that fused global Afro-inspired rhythms with powerful cultural storytelling.

In addition to the production brilliance, the album featured lyrical contributions from a talented team of Ugandan songwriters including Ghost Elnino, Rulz, Ziginana, and Tarley.

These writers are expected to receive official Certificates of Recognition from the Recording Academy for their pivotal contributions to the Grammy win.

“This is more than just a personal win,” Matt B said upon arrival. “It’s a moment for Uganda, for East Africa, for the entire continent to realize the power and reach of African music and creativity.”
