Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Shamim Malende, is expected to return to Uganda early next week following a three-month medical stay in Nairobi, Kenya.
Malende broke the news of her imminent return through a brief social media post on Wednesday, where she wrote, “Coming back home, Monday 21/7/2025. Thank you, my people.”
The legislator was flown to Nairobi earlier this year to undergo specialized treatment for an undisclosed health condition.
While details about her medical journey remain private, sources close to her team say she has made significant recovery and is eager to resume active political engagement.
Despite her recent health setbacks, Malende is gearing up for what promises to be a highly competitive bid to retain her parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.
Her return sets the stage for intense internal party dynamics, as she is expected to face stiff competition for the party flag from several aspirants. Among the frontrunners is Zahara Maala Lukyamuzi, the current Speaker of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), who is reportedly eyeing the same seat.
Malende, a vocal and high-profile member of the opposition, rose to prominence for her bold advocacy and legal background. Her supporters have welcomed the news of her return with excitement, anticipating a rejuvenated campaign season.
Her homecoming next week is likely to re-energize her political base as she re-enters the Kampala political scene amid speculation and strategy within opposition circles.
