Veteran musician Amiri Sengendo has made a heartfelt appeal to Eddy Kenzo’s Uganda National Musicians Federation and popular promoter Abtex, requesting that a concert be organised in his honour as he battles illness.

Speaking emotionally during the burial ceremony of fellow artiste Daudi Mugema, Sengendo took the opportunity to address the musicians, industry leaders, and fans present.

He revealed that he is currently unwell and in need of financial support for treatment, which he hopes could be raised through a tribute concert.

“I am sick. I also want a concert,” Amiri declared. “I was the first one to tell Kenzo to organize a show for me. I quit music because the youth want us out of the industry.”

The legendary singer reflected on his contributions to Uganda’s music scene, lamenting the lack of financial reward despite having produced some of the country’s biggest hits.

“I am one of the musicians who sang one of the top songs that rocked this country, but I didn’t get any money from it,” he said.

Sengendo also criticized the culture of waiting to honor artists posthumously, calling for a change in mindset. “People should stop celebrating others when they have died but rather do it in life,” he urged.
