In a heartfelt and deeply personal statement shared on her official Facebook page, Hajat Kulthum has confirmed the end of her marriage to Acram Gumisiriza.

Hajjat Kulthum began her statement by extending warm Islamic greetings to her Muslim brothers and sisters, religious leaders, cultural leaders, friends, family, and the wider Ugandan community. She expressed the difficulty of making the announcement, describing it as “one of the hardest letters I’ve ever had to write.”
According to Kulthum, she met Mr. Gumisiriza in 2021 and officially married him in 2022, following the passing of her late husband.
She explained that after finding herself alone, she sought companionship in good faith and believed her new marriage would bring peace and support. However, she soon began noticing “red flags from the very start.”
Despite numerous attempts to heal the relationship, Hajjat Kulthum shared that the emotional distance between them continued to grow. “We both know our relationship has changed,” she wrote, explaining how the love and connection they once had had faded. She acknowledged that staying in the marriage any longer would only deepen the pain for both parties.
“This is not about blame,” she emphasized. “It’s about acknowledging that we are no longer good for each other in the way that a partnership should be.” Kulthum expressed her desire for a respectful and cooperative separation, noting that she is committed to handling any legal or shared responsibilities with maturity and fairness.
What stands out in her message is the spiritual depth of her decision. Kulthum made it clear that she did not take the dissolution of her marriage lightly, especially given the sacred nature of the Islamic marital bond. She said she had taken time for prayer and deep reflection, seeking divine guidance before coming to her final decision.
“As we navigate this divorce, I want to acknowledge the spiritual and religious weight this decision carries… I believe that even in endings, Allah offers guidance, mercy, and the opportunity for healing.”
Kulthum concluded by stating that Sheikh Abdul Rahaman Serunjoji, alongside her family, would oversee the divorce proceedings.
