Are Ugandan TikTokers Making Money?

TikTokers in Uganda live large flaunting expensive rides and luxury apartments. Many claim to be reaping millions from their TikTok content while others put up claims of mega endorsement deals. But are they making money?

Well, far from the truth, most Ugandan TikTokers are not harvesting the millions from their fame. That explains why many are quitting into the traditional sectors or shifting to better paying platforms such as Youtube.

For every 1 million views, TikTok pays a creator $600 dollars. This is about UGX 2.1 million. However, this is dependent on many factors. Most Ugandan creators are not eligible for the 2024 Creator Rewards Programme. Thus, it’s possible to find a Ugandan TikToker making below $10 dollars for their 500K views.

According to Gracey Mae, below is how TikTok pays:

With the 2024 Creator Rewards Program, Creators should receive between $4-8 per 1,000 views

The amount you make depends on:

– Video completion rate

– Average watch duration

– Comment-to-view ratio

– Share and save rates

– Like-to-view %

Don’t forget:

1. Where you live makes a big difference. Creators based in the US and UK tend to earn more

2. Your viewer’s location plays a big role. Videos watched in countries with higher ad rates bring in more money per view

3. Your account’s standing matters. Following community guidelines helps you earn more

4. Earnings change with seasons and trends. Creator payments usually go up during shopping seasons and major events because ad rates increase

5. Your viewers device can change how much you earn. Desktop views often pay more than mobile views because of different ad values

So next time you see a Ugandan TikToker, do not be fooled by the illusions, many are still footing in the jungles of Ugandan struggles.
