The artistic expression and urban touch reproduced on this sound pushes AirporTaxi, an urban hip-hop ground beyond the board. The boisterous sound that the chorus echoes is charming. With voices that pattern over tinny handclap, ticky snare, tishy hi-hats, spacey cowbell and deep bass kick drum that flattens on decay. The whole electronic feel on the song reminds me of ‘Planet Rock’ by Afrika bambaataa and Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing.’

Co-Produced by Aethan and Sam Lamara at Talent Africa studios “808’s & Heartbreaks” finds AirporTaxi in a position to rap about frustration, heartbreaks and good life, It opens with the beat that plays for a few seconds as their lead vocalist Martha gives it a rhythmic feel through the chorus. Llyboc raps on the first verse with his ‘on-point’ lyrics as Tucker pitches on the last verse.

‘808’s & Heartbreaks’ comes off AirporTaxi’s debut album ‘Lift Off’ that is expected to drop this year. The group’s passion towards good music has seen them evolve from speck artistes to iconic figures on the Ugandan music scene. Comfortably swagging on a competitive music scale that comprises of many local genres, this young finds a slot where their music fits.
