After taking a musical sabbatical, sporadically releasing music online, Uganda’s Jazz aficionado Isaiah Katumwa, is back in the country for a live music performance at the dfcu Jazz in the Pearl festival.
The dfcu jazz festival will be an unforgettable celebration of rhythm, soul, and musical mastery. It will happen on May 10th at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
This year’s festival promises to be the most exciting yet, featuring an eclectic mix of legendary performers’ notably world-renowned saxophonist, Kirk Whalum, Isaiah Katumwa, as well as Tshaka Mayanja and the Black Roots Academy of Soul, one of the most talented jazz musicians currently in Uganda.
“Jazz is more than music—it’s a movement, a community, and a story,” Isaiah Katumwa says. I am thrilled and I invite everyone —from die-hard jazz fans to curious newcomers—to join us for this concert that blends of culture, creativity, and connection.”
Event sponsors dfcu reveal that the dfcu Jazz in the Pearl Festival marks a powerful cultural collaboration, aimed at not only entertaining audiences but also promoting Uganda’s jazz music industry.
This sponsorship builds on dfcu Bank’s commitment to empowering Ugandans and fostering connections through shared experiences. Over its 60-year history, dfcu Bank has played an instrumental role in bringing people together, supporting entrepreneurial ambitions, and celebrating Uganda’s diverse cultural heritage.
“Music has an extraordinary ability to transcend boundaries and connect people, and dfcu Bank is proud to bring you the dfcu Jazz in the Pearl Festival because of our deep belief in the power of connection. For six decades, we have been driven by a vision of building a community of progress, and this concert allows us to celebrate that journey with the Ugandan people,” said Charles Mudiwa, CEO dfcu Bank.
