Elijah Kitaka recently shared his thoughts on the hurdles faced by local artists aiming for global recognition.
Speaking during UBC’s Calvin Da Entertainer Horizon Vibe TV interview, Kitaka emphasized the limitations within Uganda’s music industry that prevent many talented musicians from breaking into the international arena.
According to Kitaka, while it is possible for Ugandan musicians to achieve local stardom, they often encounter a “ceiling” that blocks further growth on a global scale.
He noted that the country lacks the structures necessary to propel artists to greater heights beyond national borders.
“Uganda is not the ground that grooms musicians to go international,” Kitaka said, highlighting the systemic challenges within the local industry. He added, “This place has its limits, and no matter how good an artist is locally, the opportunities to move beyond those borders are scarce.”
Kitaka pointed out that for Ugandan artists to achieve international success, they often need to seek opportunities outside the country.
“The truth is, Uganda does not have opportunities that move its singers to greater heights. If you want to go beyond, you need to leave and look for opportunities abroad,” he explained.
