The week has kicked off with a heated exchange between two prominent Ugandan dancehall artists, Ziza Bafana and Mudra D’Viral, as they took their disagreements to social media.

Ziza Bafana sparked the dispute by openly criticizing the current state of the dancehall genre, expressing his dissatisfaction with what he called “bubblegum” content that he believes lacks quality and meaningful production.

In his post, Bafana warned that such trends could lead to financial ruin for artists who fail to create enduring and impactful music.

“We must change the music productions, and these bubblegum lyrics must STOP immediately. Or else I see a lot of fake artists/musicians turning to farmers and beggars!” Bafana wrote on his social media platforms.

The post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans and fellow artists. Among the responses was an immediate and pointed rebuttal from Mudra D’Viral.

Mudra dismissed Bafana’s concerns, arguing that artists should prioritize meeting the demands of their audience rather than focusing on subjective standards of quality.

According to Mudra, the primary goal of music is to generate income, not necessarily respect.

“We should just serve the market with what they want. Everyone’s life is everyone’s business. Give people good advice. Work to make money, not to earn respect, coz respect no pay bills. This is Uganda, not America,” Mudra commented on Bafana’s post.

The exchange has since ignited debates among fans and stakeholders in the music industry, with opinions split between supporting Bafana’s call for quality content and Mudra’s market-driven approach.

As the conversation continues to unfold, many are left wondering if this clash will result in positive changes in Uganda’s dancehall scene or simply remain a war of words.
