Mathias Mpuuga Defends Alien Skin Amid Controversies: “We Won’t Give Up on Him”

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader and former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has come to the defense of his ally, Alien Skin, following a week marred by controversy involving the popular singer.

Alien Skin, real name Patrick Mulwana, has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. On Tuesday night, he and his team were embroiled in a clash with security personnel at the Enkuuka event held at Lubiri.

The next day, he reportedly got into a heated confrontation with the crew of fellow artist Pius Mayanja, popularly known as Pallaso, during the Empele Festival in Buloba.

These incidents sparked criticism from some political analysts, who questioned Mpuuga’s decision to associate with Alien Skin, citing the singer’s troubled history.

However, the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP addressed these concerns during a press conference on Friday, stating that leaders have a responsibility to guide and rehabilitate individuals like Alien Skin rather than judge them harshly.

“We have so many allies with different characters. We are alive to their situations, which is why as leaders, we cannot ignore these young people. These are young and talented people,” Mpuuga said.

Mpuuga emphasized that artists and young people like Alien Skin have long been neglected by society, which he believes has contributed to their struggles.

“They have been ignored by society. In fact, their exhibition over the week is a confirmation of the fact that they have been ignored, and therefore they have chosen their own way,” he remarked.

The DA leader reiterated his commitment to supporting Alien Skin and others like him, highlighting the DA’s role in rehabilitating and reintegrating such individuals into society.

“We are not going to give up on Mr. Mulwana and others like him. We have a history of rescuing them, and some of his ilk have turned into very important citizens. They will not be the first to be rescued. We have rescued many, and some have even assumed very important national offices,” he said.

Last month, Mpuuga and Alien Skin formalized their alliance through a cooperation agreement. The memorandum, according to Mpuuga, seeks to promote democratic values and inclusivity in Uganda.

“Our collaboration with Alien Skin is not just about interests but about aligning with individuals who share our values of transparency, equity, and the promotion of democratic principles,” Mpuuga stated at the time.
