The President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Creatives, Eddy Kenzo, has shared a big milestone for Uganda’s creative industry. The Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill 2024 has been approved by Cabinet, marking a crucial step towards its enactment.

Kenzo announced the development in an official statement to UNMF members, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support the Bill received.

He revealed that the Bill had been returned from the Parliamentary Counsel before securing Cabinet approval.

Following this, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs is expected to publish the Bill in the Gazette and introduce it to Parliament for debate and eventual enactment.

Additionally, the Ministry of Finance has issued a Certificate of Financial Implication, further clearing the way for the Bill’s progress.

Kenzo referred to the Bill’s approval as a “Christmas gift” for Uganda’s creative community and extended his appreciation to President Yoweri Museveni for his guidance and support.

Kenzo concluded by urging patience as the remaining processes unfold, expressing confidence in the collective achievement of this milestone.

“We are grateful to H.E the President for listening to our concerns and guiding us appropriately. Let’s patiently wait through the remaining final process and celebrate this achievement together,” Kenzo wrote.
