Gravity Omutujju has raised concerns about the current state of the Ugandan music industry, claiming it is on its “deathbed” due to political interference and shifting priorities among musicians.
Gravity, who recently experienced a disappointing turnout at his show at Lugogo Cricket Oval, believes politics has driven a wedge between musicians, weakening the industry’s unity.
In a recent television interview, Gravity explained, “The industry is at its weakest, largely due to politics. Politics has infiltrated the industry, causing division among musicians and preventing us from advocating for common goals.”

He feels that the intrusion of politics has disrupted collaboration and solidarity, leaving artists divided and unable to effectively push for mutual growth.
Aside from political interference, Gravity pointed out that some musicians are now prioritizing social media trends over musical quality.
With platforms like TikTok gaining popularity, many artists focus on going viral rather than producing meaningful, high-quality music.
“Musicians no longer focus on creating good music; they’re more interested in going viral on TikTok than spending time in the studio,” Gravity added.
