The mother of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, has expressed her deep regret about her son’s decision to enter politics.

Ssegirinya transitioned from a Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) councilor to a Member of Parliament, capturing the support of many in the last general elections.

However, his tenure has been marred by significant health issues and legal troubles, keeping him from serving his constituents as he had hoped.

Ssegirinya’s challenges began shortly after he assumed office. Alongside fellow MP Hon. Allan Ssewanyana, he faced arrest early in his parliamentary career and spent almost two years in detention.

During this period, his health deteriorated, and he was reported to have been battling severe lung complications and skin cancer. His family later sought medical treatment for him in the Netherlands and Kenya, where he showed gradual improvement.

In a recent media interaction, his mother provided an update on his health, stating that he is now recovering steadily and is back home, although he still experiences discomfort in his legs.

She took the opportunity to thank the people of Kawempe for their unwavering support and prayers, emphasizing that their encouragement has been instrumental in her son’s journey.

Reflecting on Ssegirinya’s political career, she admitted that she wishes he had not pursued this path, as it has led to significant health issues.

Yet, she acknowledged that his passion for serving the community remains undeterred. When asked if she would dissuade him from running in the upcoming elections, she expressed doubt, noting that Ssegirinya’s commitment to helping people is deeply rooted.

“True, I wish my son had never joined politics because it was the start of his health deteriorating. But he’s hard-headed and couldn’t be stopped. I’m certain that he’s running in the next elections and I want to thank the people of Kawempe who have been there for him. Please vote him back into Parliament so he can serve you diligently,” she concluded.
