Media personality Faiza Salima recently shared a deeply uncomfortable dating experience that highlighted the importance of honest communication, particularly when it comes to finances.
During an appearance on Sabrina Agasha’s podcast, Salima recounted a date that took an awkward turn due to her companion’s reluctance to discuss his financial situation.
The incident took place in Naguru, an upscale area of Kampala, where Salima’s date insisted that she choose the restaurant for their evening out.
Considering the ambiance and vibe, she selected the Protea Hotel Kampala Skyz, a venue renowned for its exquisite dining and premium prices.
Despite her love for good food, Salima was concerned about the financial comfort of her date. “I believe it’s vital for partners to choose venues that fit their budgets to avoid unnecessary pressure,” she explained during the interview.
As the evening progressed, the situation took a tense turn when her date excused himself to use the restroom but took an unusually long time—nearly 30 minutes.
Salima admitted that during the wait, she started to worry that he might have left her stranded. She even considered the idea of calling her mother for help, laughing as she recalled the thought. Fortunately, her date eventually returned, though the night was far from salvaged.
Upon his return, the waitress handed him a receipt rather than the anticipated bill. It became apparent that he had been frantically searching for a mobile money outlet to withdraw cash—money he had borrowed just to cover the Shs200,000 bill. “That moment was surreal. It was too much for a date, and I felt a mix of embarrassment and disbelief,” Salima reflected.
