Ugandan league champions KCCA FC will have an uphill task when they face Nkana Red Devils at the Kitwe Stadium on Saturday in the first leg of the CAF Champions League first round.
Although coach George Nsimbe has promised to get another win away from home, similar to that against El Merreikh in the preliminary round, the Zambian champions have decided to take it easy, simply awaiting D-day.
To reach the first round, KCCA FC shocked the Sudan champions 3-2 on goal aggregate, while Nkana needed to be at their best to humble Mbabane Swallows 5-2 and qualify on a 5-4 aggregate.
“We know what formula to play against Nkana. If they could concede four goals in the previous round then we know their defence is weak,” said Nsimbe.
Tony Odur, who scored in each leg of the preliminary round and last year’s top scorer in the league, Herman Wasswa, Tom Masiko and Brian Majwega are all expected to start the game at the copper belt in Kitwe.
“I want to keep scoring more goals that will take my team to the group stage of the Champions League,” Odur told MTNFootball.com
But after their morale boosting 3-1 win over local side Red Arrows in the Charity Shield last weekend, Nkana Red Devils’ coach Masautso Mwale will expect his boys to make use of the home ground and support.
Mwale will also be hoping for the return of key players Ronald Kampamba, Lottie Nyimbili and midfielders Claude Bwalya, Kelvin Mubanga, who missed the Charity Shield tie last weekend.
Nkana Red Devils have never lost to a Ugandan side and in their last meeting with KCCA FC in 1992, the Copper belt team won 4-0 at home before traveling to Uganda to win 2-0 at the Nakivubo Stadium.
