Fufa and KCCA are pulling the rope over the inclusion of three players in Uganda Cranes friendly match against Zambia’s Chipolopolo.
Uganda and Zambia face off in Ndola next Wednesday on a Fifa designated date for friendlies. Clubs are by law obliged to release players for national duty as long as it is a Fifa break.
However, the timing has not done clubs justice as most will be involved in the return leg of the Caf Champions League and Confederations Cup three days later.
KCCA face Zambia’s Nkana FC this Saturday in first round first leg in Kitwe before the return leg next weekend. Yet Cranes and Chipolopolo game is next Wednesday, which will leave the selected players just two days to recover for their Saturday continental encounter.
The KCCA players in question are striker Tony Odur as well as midfielders Brian Majwega and Ivan Ntege and Fufa insist they will use them.
“We mean no harm and honestly want KCCA to perform well,” said Mujib Kasule, the head of the federation’s technical committee.
“We have been in touch with the club (KCCA) and we will decide after their game how best we can strike a compromise.”
“There is no chance of that happening,” was Nsimbe’s response when asked whether he would release the trio to Micho.
On his part, Micho has blamed at the continental governing body, Caf over the scheduling of Champions League and international friendly games in the same week.
“It is a tricky situation brought on us by them (Caf). It is not KCCA’s fault but we shall try to sort out the issue amicably,” he said.
“We mean no harm and honestly want KCCA to perform well. We have been in touch with the club (KCCA) and we will decide after their game on Sunday how best we can strike a balance.
KCCA is not alone as Kenya’s Gor Mahia and Tanzania’s Yanga – all involved on the continent this and next weekend – also have their important players scheduled for the Cranes friendly.
But according to Kasule, they have been encouraged that the Kenyan and Tanzanian clubs will release the players. The players in question are Gor Mahia’s Daniel Sserunkuma, Godfrey Walusimbi and Geoffrey Kizito, plus Young’s Hamis Kiiza and Emma Okwi.
