Renowned Ugandan songwriter, producer, and singer Daddy Andre has expressed disdain towards the government of Uganda, citing its inadequate involvement and handling of issues concerning the entertainment industry, particularly music producers.
In a recent interview on a local TV station, Producer Daddy Andre remarked, “The government involvement in the entertainment issues is so funny and ashaming. They talk recklessly and need to be educated. The government is never there when we are working and toiling to put on our logos in our songs? You know nothing on how much when we are trying to pay for the albums.”
His comments shed light on the frustration felt by many within Uganda’s music production community, who perceive a lack of support and understanding from government authorities.
Daddy Andre’s critique emphasizes the disconnect between policymakers and the realities faced by those in the entertainment sector.
Over the past five years, the Ugandan government has purportedly made efforts to engage with the entertainment industry through bodies such as the Uganda National Musicians’ Federation (UNMF) and Uganda Musicians Association (UMA).
However, according to Daddy Andre and others in the industry, these efforts have fallen short of addressing the core issues faced by music producers and artists.
Challenges within the entertainment sector include inadequate infrastructure, copyright protection, and financial support for artists and producers.
Despite initiatives aimed at rehabilitating and developing the industry, many stakeholders feel that government intervention remains insufficient.
The criticism from Daddy Andre underscores the need for greater collaboration between the government and the entertainment industry to address systemic challenges and foster sustainable growth.
It serves as a call to action for policymakers to better understand the needs of music producers and artists, and to implement effective measures to support their endeavours.
As Uganda’s entertainment industry continues to evolve, the voices of artists and producers like Daddy Andre are vital in shaping policies and initiatives that promote creativity, innovation, and prosperity within the sector.
