In a stunning twist within Uganda’s entertainment sphere, singer and videographer Viboyo Oweyo’s 2022 prophetic vision regarding singer-cum-politician Bobi Wine’s nomination in the Oscars has manifested itself as reality.

On September 2, 2022, Viboyoo shared his foresight on social media, stating, “I see a nomination from the Academy (The Oscars) for this one. Let’s wait and see how it’s gonna go. Well done to all that took part in the making. I believe it wasn’t a walk in the park given the environment it was done in. I also personally know of many filmmakers that were arrested and imprisoned during the making of this very film. Glad that the project finally blossomed and is ready for the world to see for itself firsthand. Congratulations Bobi Wine.“

This revelation comes on the heels of Bobi Wine’s documentary, “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” securing a coveted spot on the nomination list for the 2024 Oscars.

The documentary, which delves into the life and journey of Bobi Wine, is nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Film category alongside four other distinguished documentaries, including the Tunisian production “Four Daughters.”

Expressing his humility and gratitude, Bobi Wine remarked, “It is such a humbling moment to see the Ugandan story make it to the Academy Awards – the most prestigious and significant awards in the world. Today the fight for democracy in Uganda and around the world lives on. Thank you for this recognition!“

The complete list of nominees in the Documentary Feature category includes “Four Daughters,” “20 Days in Mariupol,” “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” “The Eternal Memory,” and “To Kill a Tiger.”

As anticipation builds, the Ugandan contingent eagerly awaits the outcome of the Oscars ceremony, where the world will witness the global acknowledgment of their narrative on democracy and resilience.
