Julia Roberts is mourning the loss of half-sister Nancy Motes, after her body was found dead in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 9).
The 37-year-old was discovered at a friend’s home from a suspected drug overdose, reports Sky News.
In a statement, the Roberts family said they were “shocked and devastated” by Motes’s death.
“It is with deep sadness that the family of Nancy Motes … confirms that she was found dead in Los Angeles [on Sunday] of an apparent drug overdose,” the family said.
Roberts and brother Eric were related to Motes via their mother Betty Lou.
The August: Osage County actress was due to attend an Oscar nominees luncheon last night, but did not attend under the circumstances.
According to LA County Coroner spokesman John Kades prescription drugs were found at the scene, as well as indications of a suicide note.
A post-mortem examination is yet to be performed, Lieutenant Larry Dietz added.
