The Ugandan music industry is on fleek as seven of its members get nominated in the 2021 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The African Union Commission (AUC) and The International Committee of All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have released the 2021 nominees list.
The list, released on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, was from the over 8,880 songs submitted for adjudication.
The record-breaking fleet of Ugandan talents in the AFRIMAs nominations comprises; Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, Rema Namakula, Spice Diana, B2C (Kampala Boys), DJ Harold, Afrie, and Double S.
Spice Diana
In the Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa category, Ugandans; Rema Namakula (Loco Ft. DJ Harold and Chike), Spice Diana (Body), and Afrie (I Am an African Girl), will be battling for supremacy with Tanzania’s Zuchu (Sukari), Rosa Ree (That Gal), and Nandy (Nimekuzoea), among others.
Multi-international-winning-singer, Eddy Kenzo (Weekend) takes on Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz (Waah Ft. Koffi Olomide), Rayvanny (Ft. Inoss’B), Kenya’s Sauti Sol (Rhumba Japani), and many others in the Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa bracket.
Music trio B2C/Kampala boys (Awo Ft. David Lutalo), makes it to the Best African Duo, Group or Band fisting with Kenya’s Sauti Sol, South Africa’s MI Casa, Togo’s Toofan, and many more.
Eddy Kenzo
Ugandan/British rapper, Double S is also nominated in the Best Male African Act in the Diaspora for his song “Day One”.
It’s understandably that amongst all the nominated Ugandans, it’s only Eddy Kenzo and Afrie that have won the AFRIMA trophy before.
The 2021 AFRIMA’s feature over 400 songs from artists in the 30 continental and 10 regional categories cutting across African talents and creatives living on the continent and in the Diaspora.
Rema Namakula
AFRIMA is a combined effort by music professionals across the continent aimed at celebrating the rich musical heritage of African continent.
About 44 countries vied to be the host of the iconic continental award AFRIMA. Nigeria won the right to host AFRIMA for three years (2014-2016).
AFRIMA is spearheaded by a group of professionals and music stakeholders known as the International Committee.
