Google is allegedly planning to axe its Nexus brand in 2015.
Analyst Eldar Murtazin claims that the line of affordable yet powerful devices will be dropped next year as the web giant focuses on its Google Play Edition range.
“Nexus line by Google is over in 2015. Yes – this line will be replaced by Play Edition,” he wrote on Twitter, adding that the Play Edition range will also be rebranded.
Current Play Edition smartphones run a stock version of Android, free of pre-installed extras from third-party manufacturers, and are generally more expensive than standard models.
Sources have claimed that manufacturers dislike supporting the Play Edition brand while also competing with Nexus products on the market, according to KnowYourMobile.
