MOMENT OF SILENCE: Ugandan HipHop is DEAD!

For the past seven years and so, hiphop has been described as on “steady growth, rising from strength to strength”. However, thats a blunt lie. That description nolonger holds water. Hiphop’s growth curve is not exponential. It has gradually risen, stagnanted and now on the fall.

So how did I end up writing an obituary of something I held at heart?

The media has been a key ingredient to the diet that hiphop fed on. Like a child, the media bathed and clothed the art making it attractive. Today, the young man is in tatters.

THE DIAGNOSIS FULL REPORT:

After a thorough check up, hip hop was found be a patient of multi-organ failure, a fatal condition that may soon send it to the grave.

1. SOCIAL MEDIA
Most rappers look to social media as the final destination of their talent. From discussing Moyes and sexual issues, rappers are lost in the cyber world. Get music out of facebook and twitter. Music belongs to radio and TV.

2. NO MORE HUNGER
Talent is not enough to achieve success. Our rappers are satisfied or pretend to be. When was the last time a crowd screamt your name?

3.NO EVENTS
Once a rapper releases a song, the next move is printing and selling t shirts! Much as we respect diversification, selling T shirts should never replace events. The only events are release parties.

4.TOO FOREIGN
Just look at yourself betraying yourself! Embrace Uganda ba people!

After this dosage, you might be asking yourself who the hell I am. Or whether I rap!
Well, if there are no changes, those might just be your last words.

GET WELL SOON.
