I honestly believe that there is more therapy to be found in music notes and lyrics than in most therapists’ offices. Which is why good music is not just important, it is a necessity! And by good music I mean the kind that you can play on repeat all day long, all week through, without feeling like you have reached satiety point.
The kind of music that feels like company when you take a lone evening walk or go on that solo trip. Music that you play when you want to finish up a business proposal or write up a chapter of a book because for some unexplained reason, it gets your creative juices flowing. The kind of music which makes you angry with yourself that you didn’t find and listen to it sooner.
After putting it off week after week, I finally listened to Zoe Melodies’ debut EP Greater Love and I have just two complaints; one, why didn’t anyone bug me to listen to this EP much sooner and two, why is this an EP and not an entire album? Six songs just doesn’t cut it; we could have used a bonus track at least!
The six tracks on this EP are Mr. Politician, The Place of Encounter, The Body of Christ, Awesome God, Greater Love and Rhythm of Heaven and more than the melodious voices of the Zoe Melodies (pun intended!), the instrumentation and the beats, what I really love is the fact that each song on this EP has a deep and strong message that everyone can relate to.
From Mr. Politician that is a direct caution to those in authority, The Body of Christ that calls for oneness and unity in the Church to Greater Love that reads like a love letter from God Himself to me.
As for The Place of Encounter, phew! That had me feeling like I was being drawn into the God’s very presence before His throne. I could swear I felt an angel hug me as I listened to this particular song! Awesome God and Rhythm of Heaven are a bit groovy and had me thinking up several shuffle dance moves (if only my body would cooperate though!).
For all this rambling, all I really want to say is if you’re tired of the much-hyped-but-actually-trashy music that is nothing but “kidongo” which often leaves you with a headache, the Zoe Melodies’ Greater Love EP is the healing you need! You will worship, dance, learn and your brokenness will be mended in one go.
