Uganda (RAHU) and partners joined youth in Kampala to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a mobile Love Caravan

By Our Reporter

In keeping with growing and investing in the health of young people, Reach A Hand, Uganda (RAHU) and partners joined youth in Kampala to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a mobile Love Caravan, that traversed the city sharing Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) information with emphasis on safe sexual behaviour and the importance of knowing one’s HIV status.

The Love Caravan themed “Love Boldly” was geared towards imparting Sexual Reproductive Health knowledge and empowering young people to take positive action towards their health and lives.

The Caravan moved through hotspots in Kampala picking up young people and engaging them in conversations on safe sexual behaviour, healthy relationships and creating HIV/AIDS awareness.

Speaking at the Love Caravan Flag off, James Tumusiime, the Country Director, RAHU emphasised the need to innovate and ensure more young people are reached with Sexual Reproductive Health information especially in the midst of COVID19.

“Young people face a multitude of sexual and reproductive health challenges that often go unaddressed. The Love Caravan campaign is a great example of how we can weave fun experiences with information sharing for young people on pertinent issues like safe sex, family planning, the use of contraceptives, sexual violence and the need for youth friendly health services.” Tumusiime said.

The Love Caravan is part of an ongoing campaign that seeks to engage young people on building healthy relationships, safe sexual behaviour and creating HIV/AIDS awareness.

This campaign was supported by Galaxy FM, CiplaQCL, SafeBoda, CEHURD, Segal Family Foundation and Population Services International.

Commenting on the campaign, Nevin Bradford, CiplaQCL CEO said, “We are happy to join this campaign that allows us to care for multiple lives and leave a worthwhile impact on these communities. At CiplaQCIL, we manufacture medicines to treat HIV/AIDS, malaria and Hepatitis B. However, we are not mere manufacturers of medication. We believe in making people better and saving lives. “Caring For life” is our guiding thought. What better way is there to show love and care for life than the promotion of good health practices.”
