The Atlas Lions of Morocco will be out to try and register their first win in Group B when they face Uganda Cranes today at the Cape Town Stadium in the on-going Africa Nations Championship.
Cranes Head Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s team is top of the Group with four points and only need a draw to qualify for the last eight. “We shall not take Morocco for granted because we know they will be looking for a win,” said Micho.
The Coach told MTNFootball.com that although he respects Morocco as a team, his boys are well prepared to fulfill one of their missions of qualifying for the quarters.
“We know what to expect against the North Africans, but we shall contain them,” added the Coach.
In their last meeting in 2011 at the Marrakech Stadium, Uganda defeated Morocco 1-0 in the LG Cup. But the Moroccans who outplayed Burkina Faso in their second Group game but were poor at finishing will be out to make amends against Uganda.
Although the Ugandan Coach has said he will not change his team much, he could call on veteran attacking midfielder Vincent Kayizzi to boost the attack.
But the Moroccan Coach, Hassan Benabicha has said after the disappointing draw with Burkina Faso, he has told his boys that the last Group game will be like a final.
“We have to show our true character and play like it’s a final. We need to improve on our finishing because we have been creating many chances, but failing to convert.
Brahim El Bahri is the only player to score for the Atlas Lions at the tournament, but the likes of Issam Erraki, Mohsine Moutaouali and Abdelkbir El Ouadi will be called upon to take responsibility to hunt for goals.
A draw or a win will favour Uganda to make history and qualify for the last eight, while Egypt can also qualify if they draw 0-0 and the Burkina Faso-Zimbabwe game ends in the same score.
