Mobile money business in Uganda

By Our Reporter

MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda have announced that mobile money services between the two networks have been restored.

The announcement was made in a joint statement released on Monday where the two telcos revealed that their customers can now send and receive money across both networks again.

“We apologise to all customers for any inconvenience this may have caused and reiterate our commitment to delivering secure and seamless mobile money services.” The statement further read.

On 3rd October 2020,  Pegasus Technologies Ltd, a mobile money aggregator service experienced a security breach that impacted Bank 2 Wallet transfers. As a result other services aggregated through the third-party provider including sending and receiving money between Airtel and MTN customers were suspended as a precautionary safety measure.
