Baby mama drama be damned. Gabrielle Union is as in love with fiance Dwyane Wade as ever, despite a recent revelation that he fathered a child with another woman while they were on a break from their romance last year. In the February issue of Glamour, the Being Mary Jane actress offers up her “dos and don’ts” for love and relationships, based on her own experiences with men — including NBA player Wade.
One piece of advice she offers? Show your feelings daily. “Dwyane generally gets up before I do to go to the gym, and he’s never left without kissing me and telling me he loves me,” she says of her husband-to-be, who proposed in December.
“As for me, I am complimentary to the point where I am almost a little Chester the Molester-y,” she quips. “I think he’s so delicious. Watching him get out of the shower never gets old. Never. It’s not like he ever wonders what I’m thinking, but usually he’s thinking, ‘She needs a cold shower!'”
The 41-year-old beauty wasn’t always so smitten, though. In fact, she initially dismissed the Miami Heat superstar, 31, because she thought he wasn’t her type.
“When I met Dwyane, his ‘resume’ looked like crap: athlete, going through a divorce, nine years younger than me. None of that screamed, ‘Let’s have a lasting relationship,'” she tells Glamour. “Then, after I had a heart-crushing breakup with yet another immature jerk, I thought, it can’t be any worse if I date a fetus. Let’s just see what happens.”
What happened was that they fell in love. “Turned out he’d been on his own since he was 15. He had wisdom that comes with facing an insane amount of adversity,” she gushes. “He’s sweet, funny, honest about his shortcomings.”
As for their brief breakup last year, during which time Wade fathered a child? Union says it was “because of distance and scheduling.” She was working a lot, but she has since “reassessed” her priorities. “I realized I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my relationship for [my career],” she says.
