Yesterday, prominent Kadongo Kamu musician, Gerald Kiweewa was uncuffed and set free after almost 5days in custody at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli.
This follows the release order from the Chief Magistrates at Buganda Road Court, by Her Worship, Stella Maris Odongo ordering the Police to release the ‘Egaali ekozeko singer after the CID failed to avail the accused’s file.

He was released together with four other people from the renowned Bizonto comedy group.
Speaking to the media, Counsel Eria Nawanuwe from the Network of public interest lawyers confirmed Kiweewa’s release.
“Today we are glad and happy that finally we have got a Court release order from the Chief Magistrates at Buganda Road Court, Her Worship, Stella Maris Odongo ordering the Police to release five people, Gerald Kiweewa, Ssabakaki Simon Peter alias Akozonto akato, Ssewanja Julius alias Ssabazonto, Mbabali Merceli alias Giant zonto and Gold Kimatono as Jjaja zonto to be released immediately from Police custody,” said Mr. Nawanuwe.
“This follows a game where Police was engaging and not being truthful where the accused’s court file was because yesterday, they informed us that their file was at the DPP’s chambers but we cross checked and it was not true. So today we came with a court order saying that let the Police release the five,” added Eria.
Gerald was arrested last week on Thursday, 23rd July from his home in Maganjo in Wakiso district by CID officers over offensive communication in his ‘Nantaba’ song.
His matters are said to have arose after the former state minister for ICT and National Guidance also Kayunga Woman MP Idah Erios Nantaba reported the matter to Criminal Investigations Directorate headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala claiming that Kiwewa had attacked and defamed her in the song, titled Nantaba.
However, Nantaba publicly refuted claims that she was behind Kiweewa’s jailing.
