He rose to fame overnight, he once topped every music chart in and around town, he became a household name and was crowned Uga-Ragga King. In our first session of Sinking or Shining this year, we bring you the Lil Wayne lookalike singer Rabadaba.
Rabadaba started as member of the group called Spontaneous, comprised of Gatimo and Paragon, who had been working with Grace Nakimera, and himself as Phenomenon. Later, they all ventured into solo careers with the most prominent being Grace Nakimera.
Rabadaba soon became famous for his hot-off-the-shelf hit, ‘Bwekiri’ which immediately booked a slot on all top radio and TV stations, as the break through song for the singer.
He enjoyed a wave of fame in his initial days releasing songs like Lunyilili, Mukyamu among others. He did not only enjoy a good relationship with his then loyal fans but also had a splendid relationship with fellow artistes and this was manifested in his collabos with fellow artistes like ‘Ability’ alongside the Goodlyfe duo of Radio and Weasel and ‘Gwoyagala’ with Jackie Chandiru among others.
However at almost the peak of his career Rabadaba fell out with fellow artistes like Chameleone and Goodlyfe and this marked the beginning of a slump in his career. His rift deepened when he announced his beef with the Goodlyfe duo and went ahead to do “Tebansobola” — a song intended to hit at Radio and Weasel. The rift between these two camps grew bigger as it moved from musical to physical and in one of the encounters it is alleged he stabbed Goodlyfe’s Rasta Thadeus.
After close to two years of attempting to rejuvenate his career Rabadaba released “Love portion”– a hit song after two years in the second half of last year. It has enjoyed good air play which gives the music fraternity hope that Rabadaba could be back though he has to work hard to affirm his comeback.
So, its at this point that we ask, do you think Rabadaba will sink or shine in 2014?
