The ultimate winners in the Y+ Beauty pageant have been crowned. After weeks of regional searches, they were finally crowned at a ceremony held on Friday evening at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel where Kabasambo Esther, 21, emerged Miss Y+ while Senyonga Michael, 19, emerged Mr Y+.
They were selected from a pool of 18 contestants who had qualified from the regional competitions. During the finale, contestants showcased their creative side as well as knowledge on HIV/AIDS in a bid to woo the panel of judges who picked the ultimate winners.
The crowning ceremony was graced by different stakeholders in the sexual and reproductive health and rights space including government officials and members from civil society.
Organised by the Uganda Network of Young People Living with HIV/AIDS (UNYPA), the pageant, which now in it’s 6th edition, is geared towards ending stigma and discrimination among people living with HIV/AIDS through empowering the young people with knowledge and advocacy skills to enable them lead the fight against the stigma.
This year’s pageant was held under the theme, “peers making it happen”. The ceremony featured performances from musicians, Winnie Nwagi and Geosteady, much to the delight of the guests.
