Why Bebe Cool and Goodlyfe Reunion Hurts The Music Industry

BEBECOOLWhen Bebe Cool and his entire Gagamel family declared ceasefire with Goodlyfe, I knew it was recipe for disaster. A young music industry requires more divisions than re-unions. The sole reason why hip-hop in US was able to grow to great heights, having been fueled by the East Coast-West Coast Feud.

For any music Industry to grow, beef is a pre-requisite for this growth. Because, with beef comes competition, with competition comes more hardwork, with more hard-work comes innovation as everyone struggles to stand out, and that’s how Industries are able to go from good to great.

With Bebe Coola and Goodlyfe uniting, we shall see increased complacency and laziness in the music industry. Whereas, the past hits of both camps can be attributed directly or indirectly to beef, the new hits will look for bigger inspiration. Because, you need someone to rival, if you are to measure your progress. A united music industry is one that’s set for failure.

Of course, even we the gossip journalists won’t have much to report about. Now if there is no publicity given to the music industry, publicity which is always offered by Beef, then the music industry will become so irrelevant. And once it becomes irrelevant, we get to spend less on it.

All the strides the Ugandan music industry has made, 90 percent can be attributed to these music feuds. Even Paul Kafero (RIP) and Fred Ssebata had their own beef and that’s why they dominated.

So Bebe Cool’s reunion with Goodlyfe will just hurt both artistes’ careers in the longterm. Whereas they may register a few short-term benefits like Goodlyfe performing at Kiwatule, the earlier the two camps rejuvenate their beef, the better.

To say it straight forward, beef is good for the music industry, it is a necessary evil, without beef, we have no momentum, no competition, and once competition dies off, then the music industry follows it to the grave. So with all due honesty, Goodlyfe and Bebe Cool should break up once again, we don’t want their unity, we don’t even desire it. It hurts everyone.
