Stewie was aided by his pooch Vinny when he once again met a past incarnation of himself, and retrieved a time machine return pad.

The irascible baby used the device to alter the past so that Brian never died, thus reviving the canine and giving the Griffin family a Christmas to remember.
Stewie’s decision to save Brian did have consequences, as it changed his timeline so that the Griffins never bought their replacement dog Vinny.
