Metropol Credit Reference Bureau has unveiled a new product that will ease customers’ access to their credit information.
Dubbed “Metropol Crystobol”, the platform which was officially launched during a press conference held at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Wednesday will give borrowers more control over their credit information by having direct access to bureau products conveniently via their mobile phones.
Customers will gain access to the platform using a USSD service by dialing *243# and following the prompts. The customer will have to key in their Financial Card number in order to complete the registration.
While addressing media, Samuel Omukoko, the CEO Metropol Credit Reference Bureau, said that the new product will empower borrowers to take control of their credit worthiness and also enable them negotiate favourable credit terms with lenders.
“If a lender can access information on the borrower’s credit profile, the borrower should also be able to access information on their own profile so that they are able to analyse and evaluate their credit listing status,” Omukoko said, adding; “Customers who have previously wanted to access their credit report have had to go through the bank, but to develop a vibrant credit sharing market, customers must conveniently have access to their reports often.”
Metropol Crystobol has four bureau products that include a Credit Report which shows a detailed account of one’s lifetime borrowing with current credit providers and their performance in terms of repayment; Metro- Score which shows one’s credit worthiness; Listing Status which can either be negative or positive as reported by their various lenders; and Who Has Listed Me which shows a list of all the lenders who have contributed information about the client.
The service is currently only available for Airtel and MTN subscribers.
