Collaborations between Deejays and musicians were made famous by Deejay Khalid and Major Lazer. In Uganda, DJ Slick Stuart and Roja pioneered the fad and one of their featured artists Beenie Gunter is at it again with another “Selector” this time round.
In an upbeat dancehall tune titled Commando, Beenie introduces Deejay LL, in a song which hails a girl with benevolent whining skills. The mix master then goes on to heed to the Guntalk General’s call, by riddling the hook with vinyl scratches — a popular signature of the art of deejaying.
Some fans might feel like Beenie Gunter is getting a little too monotonous in style, with this new jam sounding a lot like songs like Olina Work and Pon Me, but it is definitely another Club Banger that will prove to the world that the tag line “Bali abayaaye tubasobola (We are better than the other guys)” isn’t in vain.
