Cavendish University Uganda awards 21 top Ugandan Students with full scholarships

Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) yesterday awarded 21 top Ugandan students with full scholarships from its Cavendish Academic- Excellence scholarship program for the 2018 January intake.

The scholarships come at the backdrop of 50 others offered during the course of last year to underscore the University’s commitment to actualizing its missions which are to provide accessible, high quality, research-driven education that transforms students into responsible citizens.

The scholarships cover up to 100% tuition and functional fees unlike other universities in the country and the program is eligible to both first-year and transfer students. This year’s target is to give out 60 scholarships and the remaining opportunities will be dealt with in the coming two intakes that’s May and August as they will be announced.

“For one to qualify, prospective students should meet the following criteria; Be Ugandan citizen, plan to attend classes in person, have at least 3 principal passes at A-level, have a total of at least 12 points at A-level, have a strong interest in developing leadership skills, be able to pass a pre-entry written English and basic-math test, be able to pass an oral interview and have at least two letters of reference or recommendation from a teacher and community leader “, he noted.

While addressing journalists, the University board also announced that it’s in advanced stages of organizing its 7th graduation ceremony set for Friday 20th April, 2018 at Commonwealth Speak Resort, Munyonyo.

Prior to the graduation ceremony, a pre-graduation lecture will be held together with the installation of the University Vice Chancellor Prof. John Francis Mugisha at the main campus.

Both events shall be presided over by the University Chancellor H.E Benjamin Mkapa, the former Head of State of Tanzania. The Executive Director-National Council for Higher Education Prof. Opuda Asibo shall be among the dignitaries to grace the events.

Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) is a private university in Uganda. CUU’s main campus is located at 1469 Ggaba Road, in Nsambya, a southern neighborhood of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. Nsambya is approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi), by road, south-east of the central business district of Kampala.

CUU is a higher institution of learning that was granted a letter of interim authority on 18 December 2007 to establish a private university under the Universities and Tertiary Institutions Act No. 7 of 2001. A full license to operate was given by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in June 2008.
