Winners in the UG Mix Maestro competition have received their cash prizes from the DJ Association of Uganda. They were each handed their cash prize amounting to Ugx 1 million at an event held at Club Guvnor on Tuesday evening.
During the ceremony, organisers also honored Club Guvnor proprietor Charlie Lubega for mentoring deejays in Uganda. He received the Most Outstanding Achievement Award for his tremendous contribution towards the deejay and music industry in the country.
Accepting his award, Lubega advised deejays to always uphold professionalism. “I am really humbled to have been considered for this award,” he stated. “It is upon us to continue elevating our status. The sky is the limit as long as we continue to put our best efforts in everything we do.”
Charlie Lubega started his deejaying career in 1986 while he was still a student at University. He owned a mobile disco called Soul Disco. He later ventured into bar business when he took over management of Ange-Noir discotheque in the early 90’s.
The UG Mix Maestro competition, held by Uganda Waragi in collaboration with the DJ Association of Uganda, aimed to recognize and celebrate outstanding deejay talent in Uganda. The competition featured regional tours that provided local talent with a platform to audition and showcase their individual talent in the battle for regional titles.
