Vipers Sports Club take on Hima Football Club in pre-season friendly

Azam Uganda Premier League side, Vipers Sports Club survived an early scare and had to dig deep to overcome a resilient Hima Football Club in the second game of their western Uganda tour played on Saturday in Kasese.

The 2010 and 2015 league champions fell behind early on to a David Ninsiima penalty after Yayo Lutimba was judged to have handled the ball in the area.

The Hima Cement sponsored side responded just before half time via a Tony Odur header and completed the comeback through two-quick fire goals from right back, Ashraf Mandela and Congolese import Mousa Mbayi in the final 15 minutes.

Despite insisting that it was just a friendly match, Coach Jorge Da Costa fielded a strong side that was captained by Mike Sserumaga.

The win in Kasese comes on the heels of a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Uganda Premier League side, Mbarara City.

“I am happy with the performance and the way we responded. The team is adapting to the new playing styles and is good preparation for the upcoming season,” Da Costa said.

Despite Hima FC having created descent chances, Vipers dominated the game in all aspects. New signing Tadeo Lwanga and Nkuubi Brian patrolled the midfield well while the free flowing passes excited the locals.

Vipers is using the friendly games as part of its grand plan to recruit fans from all regions of Uganda. The team has opened up offices in all regions of the country for this reason.

As part of its tour in Kasese, Vipers also donated sports equipment to Hima Primary School.
