Movit Products Limited, one of the Leading Cosmetics Manufacturers in Uganda, has financially boosted the upcoming Irene Gleeson Charity Walk which is aimed at improving the education conditions for children in Northern Uganda.
The cosmetics company has contributed Ugx 41 million to the noble cause, increasing their contribution from Ugx 33 million the previous year, as part of its corporate social responsibility. They handed over the cheque to the Irene Gleeson Foundation in an event held at their head offices in Bunamwaya on Thursday.
Receiving the cheque, Irene Gleeson Foundation Executive Director, John Paul Kiffasi applauded Movit for their continued support towards this charity walk and other initiatives spearheaded by the foundation. He revealed that the charity walk has already had a positive impact on the community, noting that there has been a great improvement in performance of students in village schools located in Kitgum and Lamwo districts where they distributed scholastic materials last year.
“The support of Movit has tremendously contributed to the improvement of education conditions for thousands of pupils in northern Uganda and has ensured that the dream of mama Irene lives on,” Kiffasi added.
The cheque was handed over by Emmy Musasirane, Director Operations and Administration Movit Products Limited, who guaranteed the company’s commitment towards supporting the charity walk and other initiatives geared towards supporting Northern Uganda.
“We are committed to supporting activities and initiatives that elevate education conditions in Uganda, and the Irene Gleeson charity walk is one such initiative.” Musasirane said.
He added, “We promise an exciting day as we come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of maama Irene. We urge the people of northern Uganda to come out in large numbers to support the charity walk.”
Also in attendance at the handover event was Members of Parliament for the region; Hon. Beatrice Anywar (Kitgumu Municipality), Hon. Molly Lanyero (Lamwo District) and Hon. Margaret Lamwaka (Kitgum Municiparity) who all commended Movit for their efforts towards improving the livelihoods of the people living in Northern Uganda.
The Irene Gleeson Charity Walk is an annual celebration in Kitgum and it will be held on July 22 at Boma grounds. The charity walk is conducted in memory of Irene Gleesonwho left an Austria in 1992 and came to Uganda to help care for children in need. She settled in Northern Uganda where she built schools, hospitals and also got involved in different community projects to care for thousands of children affected by the LRA war.
