Renowned saxophonist Marcus Anderson and celebrated Angolan singer Yola Semedo have been announced as the headlining acts for the 10th edition of the annual Jazz & Soul Safari.
Marcus Anderson has eight albums to his name and has performed to different audiences around the world. He has also accompanied great artistes such as CeeLo Green and Judith Hill. On the other hand, Yola Semedo is the most awarded artiste in Angola and performs different music genres like Kizomba, Zouk, Jazz and Neo-soul among others.
The artistes were announced at a cocktail event held at Club Guvnor on Tuesday evening. While unveiling this year’s acts, Jazz & Soul Safari founder Tshaka Mayanja revealed that for the first time the event will have a blend of zouk and Kizomba. This comes in line with this year’s theme, “Wear your dancing shoes.”
“Ugandans don’t like to dance,” Tshaka said. “But we would like to change that. This year’s edition will not only have jazz, funk and soul but it will also have global phenomenon Zouk and Kizomba.”
Meanwhile, premium whisky, Johnnie Walker was also officially unveiled as the title sponsor of the soul music celebration alongside other co-sponsors, Pepsi and Stanbic Uganda among others.
Speaking at the event, Juliana Kagwa, the UBL Marketing Director noted; “Uganda Breweries Limited has taken on a journey with musicians in this country and abroad to explore a platform that we truly believe is a connection moment with our customers.”
“We are here to find and meet our customers at a point where they are enjoying themselves already,” she added.
This year’s Jazz & Soul Safari will take place on Saturday, September 2 at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
