When Magufuli said he will deal with the drug menace in Tanzania, he was not messing around. He was dead serious. This is the reason why Vanessa Mdee was arrested on Tuesday and spent the night in jail.
Vanessa has been sought by the Tanzanian authorities in relation to drug investigations.
Her lawyer, Aman Tenga confirmed that she presented herself to the Central Police Station in Dar es Salaam after an order by the regional commissioner for Dar es Salaam, Paul Makonda.
She was among the celebrities mentioned in the list of people using, peddling and engaging in the drug business. The crack down on the drug cartels kicked off early last month.
At the time the list was being released, Vanessa was in South Africa filming the popular TV series, Shuga.
Sources say that apparently Vanessa Mdee presented herself to the cops without her lawyer. She thought it would be a simple matter of just showing up and that’s it.
After her arrest, the police searched her house before she was taken to the government chemist for further testing to confirm if she had any drugs in her system.
“It is nothing big lakini, because for Vanessa, she doesn’t sell hard drugs or use them. So once they test and find out she doesn’t have them in her system they will let her go. They are hunting for users and peddlers,” the source whispered.
