China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Uganda, the company undertaking the construction of the 51.4KM kilometer Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, has injected Shs30 million towards the preparations of the first Entebbe Marathon scheduled for Sunday, 19th March 2017.

Speaking at a press conference to launch the marathon, Mr. Ding Jian Ming the deputy managing director CCCC, said, “I am pleased to announce that we have sponsored the Entebbe Marathon with Shs30 million. This contribution will go towards catering for all the necessary logistics to prepare for the marathon and guaranteeing its success.” He added that the company’s deed, was part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Uganda.

Mr Charles Magumba the Entebbe Municipality Town Clerk, Mr Godfrey Ninsiima the District Police Commander Entebbe, His Worship Vicent De Paul the Mayor Entebbe Municipality Council, and Mr Ding Jian Ming the deputy Managing Director China Communications Construction Company pose for a photo during the launch on the Entebbe Marathon at Entebbe Municipality offices.

According to the chief organizer, His Worship Vincent De Paul Kayanja, the mayor of Entebbe Municipality, the marathon is expected to attract more than 6,000 participants and will be flagged off at Botanical Gardens Entebbe.

The run will have participants registering for either of the four categories; 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km.

“We want the marathon to be as competitive as possible”, said the mayor, explaining further, “We have mobilised runners from Bukwo, Kapchorwa, universities, Police, the Army and other institutions. The IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura has confirmed being the chief runner among other very important dignitaries.”

The Mayor added that the proceeds from the Entebbe Marathon will go towards helping people with disabilities in Entebbe.

“We shall use the proceeds to skill people with disabilities and also give them start-up capital not forgetting paying medical bills for those that need it,” Mr. Kayanja said.

This is not the first contribution by CCCC through its CSR programme. True to its commitment, last month CCCC donated basic needs to the SOS Children’s Village in Entebbe. Last year, the company also built and handed over walkways worth shs320 million to St. Mary’s College Kisubi.
