February is a month filled with love, joy and all things pink. Though it can be a rose and chocolate-filled paradise for couples everywhere, the reality of being alone tends to smack all the single people in the face…all month long.
Well, for all you single people out there, here are nine things you absolutely need to do this February 14th:
1. Realize there is nothing wrong you
Valentine’s Day can flood your entire body with doubts and built up negativity, especially if you have been single for a while. You may start to wonder, “What is wrong with me?” or “I’m always going to be single because no one ever sticks around.” Whatever your doubts may be telling you, ignore them. The first step in enjoying your day is to realize there is nothing wrong with you. Your time for love will come at the right place at the right time.
2. Stay off social media
You have seen the posts before: pictures of roses wives receive from their husbands, romantic candle-lit dinners and couples confessing their undying love for each other for all for their followers to see. These posts easily add envy to your list of negative emotions. Turning off social media for the day might be the best decision you can make.
3. Get a makeover
Valentine’s Day is the day to color your hair, get your nails done or spend a day at the spa pampering yourself. Give yourself a break, bask in relaxation and forget all your worries for the day.
4. Serve others
The best way to forget about your problems and distract yourself is by taking time to serve those in need. Losing yourself in the service of others is a beautiful way to spend your Valentine’s Day. Volunteer (or rescue a dog!) at the animal shelter, send valentines to the elderly or sick children and reach out to those who may be feeling even more lonely than you are. Service can change your perspective not only on that one day, but for the rest of your life.
5. Treat yourself
Indulge in your favorite desserts, watch your favorite movies and buy yourself something nice, because you deserve it. Show your own body how much you love and appreciate it by gifting yourself a new outfit or those new shoes that caught your eye a few weeks ago. Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to buy yourself a gift.
6. Celebrate your singleness
Get your best single friends together and celebrate being single! Go out to dinner, a concert or just stay in to play some games and watch your favorite chick flicks. Nothing feels better than being surrounded by people who know exactly how you feel.
7. Take a chance
Instead of sitting at home sulking all day, take a chance to try something new! You can choose to do something crazy like skydiving, or something as simple as trying a new recipe. It’s the perfect day to escape your comfort zone and try something new. Who knows? You may find a new passion in life.
8. Set goals
Take a moment to reevaluate your life. If you are not enjoying your life to the fullest, set a few goals for the rest of the year to learn to love yourself. Make it a goal to remove toxic people from your life, break bad habits and pursue your dreams. You will see a world of difference if you work toward changing your life for the better.
9. Show love
People tend to forget each year how Valentine’s Day is a day that celebrates all kinds of love, including family and friends. It is the perfect day to tell the people you love most how much they mean to you, especially if you don’t show it often. Love is a beautiful and precious part of the world, and it is so easy to get caught up in our own lives and forget that while romantic love might not be a part of your life right now, there are lots of people who love you in so many other ways.
