Ladies, it is important to arm yourselves by taking up these safety measures starting today.

Be alert: Times are indeed rough. Therefore, it is crucial to know what’s happening around you. Ask a friend/ colleague what route to take or avoid either during the day or at night. If you have a smartphone, then install GPS rightaway. If you’re travelling alone at odd hours, then share the cab/ autorickshaw number with someone you trust.

Safety apps: Make use of your smartphone and download some popular safety apps today. Currently, there are a number of apps that aim women’s safety. While some create a loud scream and alert people around, others use  SMS to send your location quickly to somebody pre-selected from your contact list. How cool is that?

Speed dial: Do you remember your Dad’s or bestie’s phone number? If not, then trust the good old speed dial to come to your rescue. It’s quick and efficient ‘coz you don’t have to look for specific numbers to call during emergency situations. Save your family/ friends/ colleagues’ (also helpline) numbers in speed dial and contact them by pressing a single number!

Carry a sharp object: No, we’re not sadists. But we know that safety comes first. Apart from pepper spray, you can also carry a sharp object in your bag at all times. A pocket knife is handy, and helps you to injure and distract the attacker at a preliminary stage.

Maintain a confident body language: Your body language definitely matters. If you look easy-to-meddle-with, you’re in for trouble miss! Hold your head high, and look straight while walking. Projecting a confident body language is going to send a signal to a possible attacker.

Report crimes: Please, please report crimes around you. You need to understand that it is important to bring crime to notice. Not only are you helping yourself, but also setting an example for others. Don’t be afraid to talk to your parents or someone you trust. And do not hesitate to inform the cops at any cost.

Learn self-defense: Self-defense is a must for every woman. Whoever said you aren’t strong enough, can go take a hike. Any kind of martial art which involves kicks and punches can be very helpful in such a situation. Remember that your aim is to bring him down to the floor.

Pepper spray: Carry a pepper spray at all times. Make sure the nozzle is not jammed as it may happen if you don’t use it often. Today, the market is flooded with pepper sprays, so check properly and then invest in an authentic one. Don’t take it out of your bag at any cost!

Prevention is better than cure: After all said and done, let us accept the fact it is not a great idea to venture out alone in a secluded spot. Preferably move in groups wherever you go.
